Jihad Ternak Planning To Export Jamnapari Goats

PASIR MAS, June 5 (Bernama) -- Kota Baharu based Jihad Ternak Sdn Bhd is planning on becoming the largest producer of the Jamnapari goats in the region by 2010.

Since operations began early this year with 2,000 Jamnapari goats in a 100-hectare area in Rong Chenok near here, the company has been getting many enquiries from companies as far as in Saudi Arabia, Brunei, Taiwan and China, said its general manager Azhar Jaafar.

The company is expected to produce 200 litres of milk, one metric tonne of meat and see an addition of 100 goats every month next year when the number of goats are increased to 8,000, he told Bernama in an interview today at the company's farm in Rong Chenok.

With two large barns and four smaller ones, the company is expected to expand its existing facilities to breed more goats until they reach 20,000 by 2010 to meet demands, he said.

Azhar said that the Jamnapari goat meat had lower cholesterol level and its milk was good for health.

A newborn Jamnapari goat costs RM1,000 while an adult goat weighing 150kg can be sold for as high as RM20,000, he said.

He said the goats obtained from Indonesia was suitable for breeding in Malaysia and that they bred fast.

Azhar said the company was also planning on diversifying its goat meat based products and expected to be producing more than five metric tonnes of meat and 300 litres of milk by 2010.

He said the farm which also had 15 workers expected to prepare a special place for holding courses on goat breeding in the future for those interested.

He also expressed confidence that the company would be able to establish a regional goat research centre.
